INFORMATION
For approximately 10 years the Association of Painting Craft Teachers held regular ‘Craft Awareness’ weekends. The first was held at Coventry College in 1995, followed by York in 1996, Hastings in 1997, and Kettering in 1998. Events have also been held at St Helens College & Wigan College.
The purpose of these was to promote, encourage and demonstrate the traditional ‘broken colour’ skills which had been employed by painters and decorators since Georgian times and, in particular, graining and marbling. Graining and marbling are the terms used for the replication of woods and marbles using just paint, brushes and skill. When performed by experts it is difficult to tell the painted version from the real thing. Most of the grand buildings in the UK, from the Houses of Parliament to the Brighton Pavillion, will have extensive examples of the techniques.
In these DVDs some of the old masters of the skill, many no longer with us, are filmed at the Craft Awareness Weekends creating a variety of finishes from blank board all the way through to finished articles.
For both those looking to learn the skills and those who are purely interested to see the techniques behind one of this country’s longest lasting and most widespread decorative techniques, these DVDs represent an invaluable and fascinating resource.
Please note: this DVD is in PAL format to play in the UK/Europe. If you would like the DVD in a different format, please contact our customer service team, who will be happy to arrange a special order for you.
