This natural sea sponge is of a type commonly called “grass sponges”.

Growing naturally on the sea bed, their surfaces are irregular and varied making them ideal for use by specialist decorators and artists who wish to obtain “random” effects when applying paints.

Grass sponges are also used for washing and bathing due to the copious amounts of liquid that they can retain.

This is one of over 5000 different sponge types all of which have their own characteristics and their own advantages and disadvantages for the user. Grass sponges are inexpensive compared to others available but they may not be robust enough for continual and prolonged use in decorative sponging. It should be noted that because this is a natural product, each sponge will be unique and therefore different to the one shown above.
