Letterheads - a day at the races

Published on 10.07.2024 by Rachel

On the 21st of June signwriters from around world converged on The Horton, Epsom for the latest international Letterheads meet. For 3 days the renovated Grade II-listed former Chapel became home to 130 sign painters and a range of workshops and demonstrations.

As ever we are extremely proud to sponsor these events with materials and this time we were also present with an onsite pop-up shop and brush making demonstrations taking place.

The Focus of the event was on 'the basics' and their importance to every Signwriter. Things kicked off on Friday with an introduction from Peter Anthony and day one hosted Block Lettering from Joby Carter, Roman and Italics with David Kynaston and a sign design workshop with Liane Barker.

Over the weekend Gustavo Ferrari was demonstrating Fileteador style signs

Saturday started with a surface gilding workshop led by Paul Myerscough of Bespoke Signs, he explained how to apply the size and leaf, and also demonstrated the brilliant results that can be achieved with directional burnishing, for those that would like to learn more from Paul, he shares a wealth of information through his online signwriting course.

David Kynaston created the table top for the 'Epsom Dash' pinstriping drag race, a competition to see who could pull the best line with Ross Hastie coming out as winner of the fastest and neatest line!

Throughout the weekend we were on hand to demonstrate how our brushes are made. Brush making is at the heart of Handover and being able to share the making of the tools our customers love and trust is a joy.

Sunday held the traditional auction and we absolutely had to have this panel painted by Maarten 'Letterknecht' using the left over sponsored paint at the end of the event.

Peter has put together a selection of videos from over the weekend and see you view them all on Youtube

We are absolutely thrilled to have been gifted a gilded glass piece as a thank you for our support for the event and we cant wait to put it up in our workshop.

We had a blast over the weekend and it was an absolute pleasure to be a part of. Huge thank you to Peter at Freestyle Signs and we look forward to seeing you all at the next one!
